Understand some basics and you will appreciate and enjoy this device more

Firstly, I would like to say this is a fantastic high-end device at an expectational price point. Do not believe there is any other product in the market, in this category that comes close to this product in terms cost vs value at the time positing this review. Simply the best in class for the price and value it offers. 1. Understanding the market of OBD Bluetooth diagnostic readers: There are couple of OBD readers like BlueDriver and OBDLink that come with their own apps. That is good and bad. Good because the App and device are from the same manufacturer. Downside is they bundle both device and APP COST together and sell potentially at much higher price point ~ $100. On the other side of the spectrum are device manufactures that design their own OBD readers but make them open for any developer to write an APP and hence plethora of options to choose from as far as APPs for these devices are concerned i.e., based on specific need of user. For example if an user has BMW car, probably an App like BimmerCode maybe more suitable for them, likewise for Lexus Dr. Prius, for more general purpose a FREE App like CarScanner ELM OBD2, for Ford\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s ForScan etc. These provide much more insights into diagnostic data than Apps that come with devices and most of them are priced reasonably at low cost. Even in the market of the device only manufacturers, quality and certifications do matter. Not all of them are made equal. This VGate Vlinker MS has all top notch certification including MFI (Made For iPhone) certification which ensures the products are designed to work with Apple devices unlike some devices that either work with specific version(s) of iOS or does not work with Apple products. 2. Expectation about any OBD Bluetooth reader / VLinker MS: This is nothing to do with Vlinker MS but in general applies to all OBD readers. Understand that while in manuals or marketing materials of these devices, it gets stated that OBD scanners support vehicles manufactured on / after 1996 in US, the reality could vary in some specific cases / with some vehicles. Example: Until very recently Lexus / Toyota did not provide lots of data to OBD scanners to read because they had dealer specific software called TechStream via which only certainly diagnostic data could be read or programmed. This used to be their revenue model. Understand that this is not a limitation of the device itself instead it is a lock by a specific vendor of vehicles. Likewise, if you have to connect to Tesla Model Y / S / Cyber truck you need a specific cable that connect to the Tesla specific diagnostic port (varies based on model and some years) on one end and connects to standard 16 PIN OBD port on the other end. Likewise, if you like to use ForScan software for Ford vehicles on windows or TechStream for Lexus / Toyota on Windows you need a vehicle specific cable that connects to OBD port and to the computer. That said, in general for most cars, OBD scanner with a Free App like CarScanner should work and give out information. For some other vehicles like BMW APP like BimmerCode will work and for Ford vehicles software like ForScan maybe good option. To summarize, while the hardware of Vlinker MS is fantastic, due to specific nature of vehicles you may need to use additional cables to convert the diagnostic port to standard 16 PIN OBD port and then connect VLinker MS or use vehicle specific software / APP to get the diagnostic data. 3. Protocol Support: Vlinker MS has best protocol support you could get on any device in this category for the price point it is selling. Example it not only supports SAE AND ISO protocols but supports Medium Speed CAN Bus (MS-CAN), LS CAN which is used to get access to infotainment system, Single Wire CAN which is used by GM vehicles, CH CAN known as Chassis CAN and HS CAN (High speed CAN). It is one of the fastest OBD-II adapter with baud rate of 3 Mbps. They claim it works with APPs / software for Windows, iOS, and Android while I only tested with APPs on IOS only. Best of all it has Free firmware update and some users have provided steps on how to do it and also how to connect Vlinker MS to some APPs. So, avoiding those steps here. It supports both 12 V and 24 V systems. Why is it important? Up until the release of Tesla\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s cyber truck most systems were using 12 V wiring and with the 24 V architecture that Tesla provided most manufacturers down the line are likely have 24 V systems in their vehicles. So having support for both 12 V and 24 V is awesome. 4. I have tried this on Hyundai IONIQ 5 (Electric Vehicle) and it works flawlessly. Used CarScanner Pro APP. Also used it for the purposes of connecting with ABRP (A Better Route Planner) APP automatically and not worrying about battery drain as it gets into automatic sleep and wake-up mode without manually removing and connecting each time. 5. I tried reaching out to their customer service few times during the process and I always had a response back within 24 hours. Great experience overall and a great product. Recommend it highly.
